Mr and Mrs Charles Clifford Rogers Celebrate 50th Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Charles Clifford Rogers are celebrating to-day and to-morrow the 50th anniversary of their marriage which will come on Monday. A Franklin County couple having spent all their lives in the county, have many friends in several towns; Mr Rogers a native of Ashfield, son of Elias and Sarah Rogers, grandson of Moses Rogers one of the first settlers of Hawley; one of seven children his siblings were Nathan, Abigail, Ellen, Lucy, Ebenezer, and Moses; he attended common schools of Ashfield and Sanderson Academy; he began to work his father's farm in 1842, since that time until retirement four years ago his occupation was farmer, his specialty raising sheep for wool; eventually owned his father's farm until 1874 when he sold it and bought the Daniel Hall farm in Ashfield which he worked for 26 years then removed to Conway and bought a farm there that he worked for six years with his youngest son; Mrs Rogers is the daughter of Robert and Mary Dewey of Colrain where she was born March 22, 1836; she was one of seven children her siblings were Mary, Robertus, Franklin, Henry C., David and William C.; her father was the leading blacksmith in Colrain; she attended public schools in Colrain and later was a tailor in Shelburne Falls; until recently she was a constant attendant at the Methodist church; their children according to their age are Mrs Ellen Kesley of Meridan, Ct., Clarence C Rogers of Greenfield, Mrs Mary Potter of Charlemont who died six years ago, Mrs Lucy M Taylor formerly of Greenfield now of Tacoma, Wash., and B.N.Rogers of Colrain; four years ago Mr and Mrs Rogers removed to Greenfield and lived with their daughter Mrs Taylor until her departure to the West; both are in good health considering their years and Mr Rogers is seen on Main street in Greenfield on every pleasant day; they will hold a reception for their many friends this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon at their home on 50 Conway street.
