    James E. Barton Dies in California

    James Edward Barton, 77, 6116 Villa Capri Ct., Carmichael, Calif., formerly of Warren, died at 4:20 a.m., Thursday in Mission Oaks Convalescent Hospital, Carmichael, following as extended illness.

    He was born Aug. 2, 1897, in Muncie, Ind., the son of James and Anna Evans Barton. His first wife, Mabel Biggers Barton, died in 1960.

    Prior to going to Carmichael in 1969, Mr. Barton was employed as a meter repairman by the Warren Water Department for 20 years. He was previously employed by the Ohio Leather Co., Girard, for 40 years.

    Mr. Barton was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Old Erie Masonic Lodge 3 F& AM, and was past monarch of Ali Baba Grotto.

    Survivors include his wife, Christine Thompson Barton, whom he married June 7, 1961; a sister, Miss Gladys Barton of Niles; a brother, Paul of Houston, Tex.; four great-grandchildren. A son, Kenneth, died in 1969.

    Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Robert H. Roberts Memorial Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

    Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Old Erie Lodge will conduct services at 7 p.m.
