He was the son of Thomas and Agnes (Reed) Dyer. He lived his entire life at Weymouth.
About 1676 he married Hannah Frary. Three children were born to them. She died in 1682.
Joseph married the second time, in 1684, to Hannah Baxter.
He lived on the old homestead and like his father was a deacon in the church under Rev. Samuel Torrey. He was made a freeman of Massachusetts in 1678.
Samuel Sewall wrote in his diary, 13 Oct. 1704; "Deacon Dyer of Weymouth, Mr. Torrey's right hand, is to be buried today. Dyd with a fall from's horse"
Joseph and his two wives had 14 children, only seven lived to adulthood.

John Baxter, Sr. and Hannah White) was born on 6 May 1661 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts; died on 4 Sep 1727 in Sherborn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; was buried after 4 Sep 1727 in Old South Cemetery, Sherborn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
