Dorothy "Dot" (Whitener) Hall, age 89, of Grand Rapids passed away on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014.
She was born on May 31, 1925 in Dawson, Texas to Edwin and Oma Whitener. She graduated from Corsicana Texas High School after which she moved to Ft. Worth, Texas where she was employed by Montgomery Ward as a file clerk. She met her husband, Robert "Bob" Hall at a U.S.O. dance and they were married on Jan. 26, 1946. After Bob's discharge from the Air Force they lived in Hibbing and Warba prior to their move to Grand Rapids in 1964. Dorothy also attended Hibbing School of Cosmetology and Electrology School in St. Cloud and owned and operated her own beauty shop for twenty-five years. Dorothy and Bob enjoyed spending their winters in Texas, ballroom and square dancing, and working together on craft projects. Dorothy was a member and past president of the Grand Rapids Women's Club and a past Deacon at the Community Presbyterian Church. She also especially enjoyed painting and singing with the Looney Tunes group.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bob who died on Oct. 18, 2001.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Karen (Steve) Tarbuck Nelson, and Kristi Ferraro; three grandchildren, Steven (Farrah) Tarbuck, Kathryn Nelson, Megan (Joe) Knopik; four great-grandchildren; and one sister of Corsicana, Texas.
Burial will be in the future at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
Dorothy married Robert Leo "Bob" Hall on 26 Jan 1946 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. Robert (son of Joseph Andrew "Joe" Hall and Nettie Grace Day) was born on 30 Dec 1923 in Warba, Itasca County, Minnesota; died on 18 Oct 2001 in Grand Rapids, Itasca County, Minnesota; was buried after 18 Oct 2001 in Itasca Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Itasca County, Minnesota.
