Vermont Legislator. Born in Massachusetts, Peter Taft moved to Vermont and became a member of the Vermont State Legislature. He was the patriarch of the Taft family political dynasty. This dynasty that lasted nearly 200 years, included US Secretary of War and Attorney General Alphonso Taft, US President and Chief Justice William Howard Taft, US Senator Robert A Taft, Governor and Senator Robert Taft Jr, and Governor Robert Taft II.
