There had earlier been the possibility that Jeremiah was the twin of Benjamin Hall. This has been disproven by ancestors of Benjamin's Hall (their father).

Jeremiah Hall was one of the original proprietors of Upper Ashuelot and drew lot No. 2 on the east side, south end of Main Street where he built his house and lived while there. He was one of the leaders in settling the township and one of the first party of eight persons that went to Keene in 1734 and began the settlement. He was also one of the party that went to Keene in 1735 and was chosen moderator of the proprietors' meeting in the absence of Capt. Sady; and again in May, 1736, he was the leader of the party that went to Keene and spent the summer in building cabins and preparing for the next year's settlement. Again in the spring of 1737, he led the party that went to Keene for permanent settlement, was the standing moderator of the proprietors at the general court.

His name is first on the list of members at the original organization of the church in 1738.  He was designated in the records in 1738 as "Capt.," and he was also a physician, the first in town, and was called Dr. Hall of Keene in the account of the scouting party, as given in the Annals, that caused the capture of Pierre Raimbault, near Northfield, in 1747.

In 1744, he buried his daughter Kezia in Keene at the age of 16 years of age and ina son, Benjamin, three years old. He buried his wife, Dorothy, in Keene in January 1753 and soon afterwards removed to Pembroke, MA. 

He was a Physician there in 1756, as appointed Surgeon's Mate, afterward Surgeon (Chirurgeon) of Col. Joseph Thatcher's regiment in the expedition to Crown Point in 1757.  In 1758, from March to November, he was surgeon of Col. Thomas Doty's regiment for the reduction of Canada.  In 1759, March 31 to December 31, Surgeon of Col. John Thomas' regiment in Halifax.

Edward was a proprietor in the Town of Wrentham, MA in 1734 and 1742.  He was a Sergeant, Ensign and Lieutenant, in the Colonial Service.

He removed to Uxbridge in 1749 and bought 200 acres for 2000 pounds.

Although all of the historical research on the ancestry of Ensign Edward Hall suggests that he was a son of Benjamin Hall as a descendant of the Halls of Rehoboth, no birth record has been found to confirm this, and, as of October 2022, no DNA evidence exists to verify it either.

Dean Crawford Smith in his book, "The Ancestry of Eva Belle Kempton: 1878-1908, Part IV" (by Dean Crawford Smith and Melinde Lutz Sanborn, Boston, NEHGS, 2000) documents that Edward was a son of John Hall (1666-c.1737) and Esther Bell who are descendants of the Halls of Taunton.

Until evidence can verify this one way ot the other, I am leaving both possible pedigrees available with a preference for Edward being a son of Benjamin.

"Preserved and his wife, Abigail Whitney have nagged at me for a while as I've never been able to find a definite death date for them. Apparently, his Will has become available on Ancestry only recently as none of the trees on Ancestry have that information.

"Preserved wrote his will on 20 July 1780 stating that he was very sick and weak but of perfect mind and memory. He names his beloved wife Abigail so if this is the same first wife, Abigail Whitney, she did not die until sometime after 20 July 1780.

"Preserved's Will was presented for Probate on 30 August 1780 so he died sometime between writing his Will on 20 July and when it was presented on 30 August in 1780. He names his wife, Abigail, sons Timothy, Jonathan, Jeremiah and Josiah; the heirs of his deceased son, Nathan, and his daughter, Abigail Stanley (I've found that she married Nathaniel Stanley). He does not name heirs of his son Abijah so I am assuming he, Abijah, died without issue and his daughter, Esther, never married.

"For his wife, Abigail Whitney, I've also found some differing information. According to birth records, Abigail was born on 22 May 1708 in Wrentham, Norfolk, Massachusetts to Josiah Whitney and his wife, Mary. Mary's surname has not been discovered, but there are a couple of spotty marriage records for Josiah Whitney and Mary. One record not giving a marriage date but a date of 1666 for her birth; the other giving a marriage date of 1686. It was after Mary died (and I believe I've found what could be her death record) that Josiah married second to Abigail Marten, so I think it is correct that Mary is Abigail's mother, not Abigail Marten. If the death record is her's, Mary Whitney died in Wrentham on 18 July 1710. Josiah married Abigail Marten on 3 Nov 1713 in Wrentham, so that would have been too late for Abigail Marten to have been Abigail Whitney's mother.

"Unfortunately, a death date for Abigail (Whitney) Hall has not been found nor the burial location for her and Preserved. I presume that they are both buried in Hallowell, Maine."

About 1746, probably in Upper Ashuelot (Keene, NH), Bathsheba married Ebenezer Day, but their marriage record apparently did not survive the turbulent times on the frontier. (The birth of the first child for whom there is a record occurred on April 18, 1747 when Ebenezer was nearly 31 years old. Bathsheba would not reach her 21st birthday until August.)

Ebenezer and Bathsheba's granddaughter, Almira Fenno-Gendrot, claimed that Bathsheba was the daughter of Jeremiah Hall. (Almira Torrey Blake Fenno-Gendrot, The Ancestry and Allied Families of Nathan Blake 3rd and Susan (Torrey) Blake, Early Residents of East Corinth, Vermont; Boston, Mass.:Stanhope Press, 1916, Reprint, Heritage Books, Inc., 2000.) Fenno-Gendrot did not cite her source but may have had access to a family Bible record. Mr. Hall came to Croydon, NH, before 1774, with a family of ten children and his niece, Elizabeth Hall, he lived near his father's farm, and it is said kept a tavern; he was a lieutenant in the Colonial Service, commissioned by the crown, and was a royalist from principle, and was highly esteemed; he was a Selectman in 1784, '85, and '86, also constable, collector, and moderator.  Children were all born in Uxbridge, MA and four sons served in the Continental Army.

"Lieut. Edward Hall came to town during the Revolution, bringing with him seven sons -- Ezekiel, Abijah, James, Edward, John, Darius and Ezra -- and settled on the flat, south of the farm of J. Nutting. From this family and Rev. Samuel Read Hall have descended the Halls. The family were shrewd, and fond of amusements."

Benjamin Hall was commissioned Lieutenant by the Crown; his son Benjamin was probably also a Lieutenant; on a list of a company of foot soldiers in 1773, were Lt. Benjamin Hall, Samuel Hall, Jesse Hall and Ziba Hall; on the alarm list 1773, were Benjamin Hall, Jr. and Nathan Hall; among the signers of the Association Test of 1776, were Jesse Hall and Samuel Hall, but Lt. Benjamin Hall refused to sign it; Lt. Benjamin preserved a coat of arms. 

In 1785, among the purchasers of pews in the new meeting-house in Keene, were Benjamin Hall, Esq., Benjamin and Hannaniah Hall.  In 1800, Dr. Ziba Hall protested against being taxed for support of the minister, being a Universalist (he lived one time in Lebanon).  In 1789, Benjamin Hall, Esq., was on a committee in Winchenden to obtain materials for bulding a meeting-house, and Dr. Ziba Hall was on a committee to select the place or site for its location.

Benjamin, along with the children known by name, also had a daughter whose name is not known at this time, who married Maj. Ames of the Rising Sun Hotel, Boston, MA.  Lt Benjamin Hall and his sons James, Hannaniah, and Josiah, being tories, removed to Canada and settled near Toronto.  He was a large man weighing some 400 lbs.

The following is from the History of Keene, Biographical Sketches: 

"Lieut. Benjamin Hall.  His name first appears in the records in 1761, when he bought of William Smeed and his wife Phebe (who had removed to Walpole), six original house-lots - numbers 12, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27 - and seventeen other lots of the several divisions of land in the township. He also owned, afterwards, house-lots numbered 16, 17, and 18 and much other land in town, amounting to several thousand acres. In 1768, he sold to Jesse Clark a farm of 100 acres 'lying in the crotch of Ash Swamp Brook,' where Mr. Clark and his son, Jesse, Jr., kept tavern for many years, and built the house west of the small pond, since known as the Ingersoll house.  In 1783, he bought of Dr. Gideon Tiffany, then of Hanover, NH, a farm of sity acres, with saw and grist mills, on the North branch - the mills since known as the peg factory.
   
"His wife's name was Melatiah, and his children were:  Nathaniel, Ziba, Hannaniah, James, Benjamin, Josiah, Bela; and a daughter Betty, who married Maj. Luther Eames, who kept a public house with Aaron Eames.

"Lieut. Hall was selectman nine years between 1762 and 1774, and again in 1784-5-6.  He represented the town in the legislature in 1771-2-3-4, and again in 1784-5 and 1787.  He was a lieutenant of the militia company here in 1773, but in 1776 he refused to sign the Association Test, and was dropped from all official positions. He was not, however, actrive against the patriots, was considered a man of sound judgment and discretion, and after the war was again entrusted with responsible offices, as appears above.  He died in 1805."

Notes:

Josiah Hall was born in Wrentham May 16, 1743.  He married Amiable (Anna) Allen who was born December 14, 1741. Josiah and Amiable removed to Winthrop, Maine and settled on Lot #11 in Winthrop. He came to Winthrop from Wrentham before the incorporation of the town.

"HALL, JOSIAH, Winthrop, Private, Capt. Oliver Colborn's Company of Minute Men, Col. Arnolds regiment.  Enlisted July 25, 1775; service 20 days."  (From Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War", Vol 7, page 96.)

He was prominent in town affairs while in Winthrop. He was the Town Clerk from 1771 to 1778 and then became a Town Selectman in 1778 ("History of Winthrop" by Everett S. Stockpole). 

The Decleration of Independence were spread upon the Town's records 'in his full, round and legible hand.'  He was one of the members of the Committee of Correspondent, Inspection and Safety in 1778  (From "History of Winthrop" by Everett S. Stockpole.)

About 1782, they removed to Washington Plantation, now Mt. Vernon.

Josiah and Amiable (Allen) Hall's first child was Betsey Hall, born 11 Aug 1763 in Massachusetts (probably Wrentham but I cannot find a record) and yes, I know, that is prior to the parents marriage.

Betsey married 1788 in Readfield, Kennebec, Maine, to John Shed(d), b. 10 Aug 1762, Tewksbury, Middlesex, MA, d. 29 Sep 1842 in Vienna, Kennebec, Maine. Betsey died 6 Jul 1849 in Vienna, Kennebec, Maine.

Josiah Hall does not appear in the US Census after 1800, so likely he died BEF. 1810. No records for his death have been found.
