Notes:

Hew was a sailor our of Salem, Massachusetts from at least 1844 to 1864 and has not been found in census for 1850 or 1860. He is not obviously listed in the Halls of New England book. One secondary source suggests that he was a son of a John Hall and Betsey Leeman but no proof of that has been found.
