He married Ethel Hodsdon after 1988.

He was preceded in death by son Gregg.

He leaves his wife; children Scott Preston of Grand Prairie, TX, Ross Preston of Tallahassee, FL, and Claudia Zane of Hilliard, OH; brothers Ralph Preston Jr of Bare Foot Bay, FL and Melvin Preston of Englewood, FL; his former wife Edith Preston of Pompano, FL; and eight grandchildren.

Burial is in St Mary's Cemetery.
