There were several roughly contemporary women in Middletown named Prudence Tryon. Two of them married men named Elijah Johnson.

The evidence for a date of birth of 1777 comes from an unsourced family tree on Ancestry.com. As her headstone says she was 84 years old at her death in 1861, that would give her a birth year of about 1777. She was baptized, along with two siblings, in Middletown on July 18, 1781. Her parents were Stephen Tryon (1750 - 1821) and Prudence Bailey (1756 - 1784).

Prudence married (1) Elisha Spaulding, "a seafaring man" of New Hampshire, on Nov 26, 1795 in Middletown. They had four children: Susannah Tryon Spaulding (appearing erroneously in some records as Stephen Tryon Spaulding), Phineas Spaulding, Prudence Spaulding and Elizabeth Spaulding. Elisha died, apparently at sea, in 1804.

She then married (2) Elijah Johnson, widower, on May 2, 1805 in Middletown.

It is assumed she died in Connecticut, but no record other than the burial record has been found.
