    "Following the death of the parents [Liberty & Lydia], several of the boys had homes with the farmers in Peru. Liberty lived with George Walker a term of years, Jeremiah lived with Adam Knight and grew up to be worthy, influential men. They were of stalwart frame and were active and progressive for that period with limited advantages. Three of them, Jeremiah, Jefferson, and Robert in Peru were identified as prominent pillars in erecting and maintaining the Methodist Church there many years. Jeremiah established the first ferry below Dixfield village one half mile, in 1828-9, last known as Brown's Ferry."

    "Jeremiah Hall and family, with his brother Robert L. and Liberty and their families, moved from Peru to Concord, N. H. in 1853. The two brothers named worked as carpenters for the Concord Wagon Co."

    "The families of Liberty and Virgil Hall, having moved from Rochester, N.Y. to Glencoe, Minn. in the fall of 1868, their parents Jeremiah and Sarah and dau. Elvira, joined them in last part of the year 1870 from Rochester, N.Y. Liberty had charge of the interests of D. Appleton in the Northwest for twenty-three years, the last few years opening up a drug store qand publishing the Glencoe Register, the official paper of McLeod county. Failing health compelled him to seek a warmer climate. He and his wife joined their sons, Clifford and Harry, at Kansas City in 1887. Jeremiah died at Glencoe in 1884. His wife Sarah went with family to Kansas City, Mo. and died there in 1888. She was buried beside her husband at Glencoe, Minn. ... The climate did not prove beneficial to Liberty Hall at Atlantic City and he became so feeble that is was thought advisable to take him to Denver, Col. This was done by Dr. Greaves, the husband of Elvira Hall. After two weeks he was much improved, and at the end of six weeks he felt he could return home and to business, and that day, the 23rd of June 1891, wrote his wife he would be back in a few days. He walked two miles two miles that day before elevn o'clock, and retired in the best spirits. At five minutes to twelve, he called his niece, Virtie, dau. of Virgil, to come quickly. He died soon, June 21, 1891, or Hemorrhage. He was buried at Glencoe beside his son Charley, brother Virgil, sister Elvira Greaves and father and mother Hall."

    "Liberty Hall, Jr., the fifth son m. Abigail Partridge of Paris, Me. When a young man he learned the trade of carpenter and went to Cuba, where he acquired some knowledge of the Spanish language. He was there some little time, working his trade. He returned to Peru, having his earning two hundred dollars Spanish silver, rare coins to back-woodsmen in those days. Libert visited his old home, George Walker's. A speciman of the coin was exhibited as a curiosity. Now it was revealed that "Uncle George" as all the neighbors called him, had a special fondness for silver, so he exchanged bank bills for the whole pile. It was observed ever after, that his tender was paper money. Over forty years after, a goodly portion of those coins resumed circulation.

    "Liberty Hall was a professor of religion, a a zealous advocate for the cause. He was life and power in social meetings, an honest, honorable man."

    Mrs. Abigail Beulah Minckler was born at Grand Isle, Vt., Sept. 28, 1826, and died at her home in New Haven, Adams county, April 9, 1911. She was married Sept. 15, 1846, to Wm. Hayes. To them were born six children: Mary L. Lashure of Portage, Victor N. Hayes of Little Lake, Emma C. Sherman of Benton Harbor, Mich., Wesley P. Hayes of Jackson, Cora A. Chapin of Randolph, and Cecilia I. Hayes who has been her mother's sole companion for several years. She with her husband settled at Harrisville in 1857 and in the fall of 1859 they moved to the home where she died. Mrs. Hayes had been a Christian since childhood and was a member of the Congregational church of Jackson. She had been a patient sufferer for many years and has been tenderly cared for by her daughter who remained at home, and of late Mrs. Sherman has spent much time with her. The sympathy of the community is with the family and most especially with the daughter left alone in the home. Funeral services were held at the house Tuesday, Rev. Dorland of Briggsville officiating. Burial was in the Briggsville (Wisconsin) cemetery. The children were all present except Mrs. Lashure who was called away by illness, and Victor, who is very sick at his home.

    The son of Thomas F. Hall and Elizabeth "Betsey" Hall of Atkinson, Maine (probably a cousin to Thomas), James Robert Hall was a Civil War veteran - 3rd Maine Light Artillery, Jan-Mar 1862 - and -1st Maine Calvary, 1863-1865 - who married Dorcas Jenks, also of Maine, in 1858.

    James was survived by six children: George Washington Hall, Charles Henry Hall, Ernest Hall, Fred James Hall, Lena May Hall Evans and Clara Hall Fellows. Another son, Edgar, who died as an infant. (Edgar is buried in the same plot a Thomas F. Hall and Betsey Hall.)

    James took up farming following his discharge. During the mid-late 1860s, he and his family lived in Enfield, Maine, but by 1869, James and Dorcas had purchased a farm in Atkinson where they continued to live for roughly thirty years.

    "Go west, young man," an often heard phrase of the time, clearly resonated with the Halls, as by the turn of the century all of the children, with the exception of George, had moved to California. Not wanting to be separated from so many of her children, Dorcas persuaded James at the age of 70 to sell their home and follow the children westward. Most, including James and Dorcas, ultimately settled in Alameda or Sonoma Counties.

    His brief obituary notes that James was an esteemed citizen of Petaluma; a retired rancher who passed away at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Clara and Fred Fellows, and who had until late been "remarkedly well preserved, strong, and rugged."

    He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California, near the grave of his late wife, Dorcas.

    The Veteran McLeod County Editor Succumbs to the Dread Malady, Consumption.

    A telegram was received in Hutchinson by Miss H. V. Anderson Wednesday announcing the death at Denver, Col., of Hon. Liberty Hall from consumption, the disease which had long been sapping his life.

    As a member of the legislature from the Sixth district in 1872 and for many years as editor of the Glencoe Register Liberty Hall was one of the most prominent men in McLeod county and he was well known in political circles in Minnesota. He wielded an able pen; few editors in the state had a finer brain than he; and he was notably fearless in the expression of his convictions. All men of such mould have their firm friends and strong enemies. So had Liberty Hall, but the affection his friends bore him was a good measure of his manhood.

    Besides a loving wife he leaves two sons, Clifford, a prominent journalist of Kansas City, Harry, also a journalist, and a daughter, Miss Birdie, all of whom have the deep sympathy of many friends in the section.

    The remains of Mr. Hall will be brought to Glencoe for interment and the funeral will probably be held on Monday.
