Also...LMHall died 1899...before 12 Mar. That is postmark I have of letter from Lucy Jane Steadman to Viola Hall Phillips (my g grandmother) talking about her father's death. I have seen a date 13 Feb 1899. I should know better in a few days when I recieve his probate documents.

On Jacob Hall (Viola's father), I am looking for a third source of his parentage. I should have the probate papers of Thomas Hall jr. at the same time as Luke's. Do you have sources other than Jacob marriage and death record for his Parents?

I also see you have two groups of children for Thom Jr. too. On the 1850 cenus there was also a Sarah 18 in the family.

Lucy (Hall) Stedman often related what a wild country she came to. According to Bertha, "Indians were every place, and she was frightened to death of them.  They were at every station when the train stopped on the way across the continent.  When she reached California and made her home in a redwood forest, she would recall to us of the many frightening experiences she had been through.  Wild animals could be seen bioth night and day.  Grizzly bears would even come out in daylight and watch the men at work in the woods.  They would approach as near as a hundred foot of them.  The California lions would scream on the hillsides at night.  Papa never went out without taking his gun with him.  This nervously upset her for she could not get the men folks to go out and see if it was a women lost in the hills.  The California lion in call to his mate would scream identically with the sound of a frightened woman screaming.  The Indians in Marin County were numerous but a harmless group.  The only time they became ugly was under the influence of alcohol.

"Mother often told of picking her first bouquet of autumn leaves.  She had rode her saddlehorse down to the Jewell ranch to visit with the Jewell girls.  When she went home she stopped and picked a beautiful boquet of Autumn leaves.  When she got home, she found to her amazement that she had a bouquet of poison oak."
