    Notes:

    There had earlier been the possibility that Jeremiah was the twin of Benjamin Hall. This has been disproven by ancestors of Benjamin's Hall (their father).



    Jeremiah Hall was one of the original proprietors of Upper Ashuelot and drew lot No. 2 on the east side, south end of Main Street where he built his house and lived while there. He was one of the leaders in settling the township and one of the
    first party of eight persons that went to Keene in 1734 and began the settlement. He was also one of the party that went to Keene in 1735 and was chosen moderator of the proprietors' meeting in the abscence of Capt. Sady; and again in May,
    1736, he was the leader of the party that went to Keene and spent the summer in building cabins and preparing for the next year's settlement. Again in the spring of 1737, he led the party that went to Keene for permanent settlement, was the
    standing moderator of the proprietors at the general court. His name is first on the list of members at the original organization of the church in 1738. He was designated in the records in 1738 as "Capt.," and he was also a physician, the
    first in town, and was called Dr. Hall of Keene in the account of the scouting party, as given in the Annals, that caused the capture of Pierre Raimbault, near Northfield, in 1747. In 1744, he buried his daughter Kezia in Keene at the age of
    16 years of age and ina son, Benjamin, three years old. He buried his wife, Dorothy, in Keene in January 1753 and soon afterwards removed to Pembroke, MA. He was a Physician there in 1756, as appointed Surgeon's Mate, afterward Surgeon
    (Chirurgeon) of Col. Joseph Thatcher's regiment in the expedition to Crown Point in 1757. In 1758, from March to November, he was surgeon of Col. Thomas Doty's regiment for the reduction of Canada. In 1759, March 31 to December 31, Surgeon of
    Col. John Thomas' regiment in Halifax.

    Edward was a proprietor in the Town of Wrentham, MA in 1734 and 1742. He was a Sergeant, Ensign and Lieutenant, in the Colonial Service.

    He removed to Uxbridge in 1749 and bought 200 acres for 2000 pounds.

    Edward Hall and Hannah Fisher were married by Mr. Henry Messinger.

    (Research):A correction to Edward and Hannah's marriage year was discovered in the Appendix of the "Halls of New England" written by Rev. David B. Hall. The year is 1722 as opposed to 1721. It further states that they were early settlers of Franklin,
    MA.

    Notes:

    Bathsheba, the daughter of Jeremiah Hall and Dorothy (Hill) his wife was born August ye 12, 1726. (Wrentham, Mass. Vital Records.)

    About 1746, probably in Upper Ashuelot (Keene, NH), Bathsheba married Ebenezer Day, but their marriage record apparently did not survive the turbulent times on the frontier. (The birth of the first child for whom there is a record occurred on April 18, 1747 when Ebenezer was nearly 31 years old. Bathsheba would not reach her 21st birthday until August.)

    Ebenezer and Bathsheba's granddaughter, Almira Fenno-Gendrot, claimed that Bathsheba was the daughter of Jeremiah Hall. (Almira Torrey Blake Fenno-Gendrot, The Ancestry and Allied Families of Nathan Blake 3rd and Susan (Torrey) Blake, Early Residents of East Corinth, Vermont; Boston, Mass.:Stanhope Press, 1916, Reprint, Heritage Books, Inc., 2000.) Fenno-Gendrot did not cite her source but may have had access to a family Bible record. In any event, as a granddaughter interested in family history, she probably would have known Bathsheba's maiden name.

    Notes:

    Mr. Hall came to Croydon, NH, before 1774, with a family of ten children and his niece, Elizabeth Hall, he lived near his father's farm, and it is said kept a tavern; he was a lieutenant in the Colonial Service, commissioned by the crown, and was a royalist from principle, and was highly esteemed; he was a Selectman in 1784, '85, and '86, also constable, collector, and moderator. Children were all born in Uxbridge, MA and four sons served in the Continental Army.

    LIEUT. EDWARD HALL came to town (Croydon, NH) during the Revolution, bringing with him seven sons-Ezekiel, Abijah, James, Edward, John, Darius and Ezra-and settled on the flat, south of the farm of J. Nutting. From this family and Rev. Samuel Read Hall have descended the Halls. The family were shrewd, and fond of amusements.

    "Josiah Hall was born in Wrentham May 16, 1743. He married Amiable (Anna) Allen who was born December 14, 1741. Josiah Hall settled on Lot #11 in Winthrop. About 1782 he moved to Washington Plantation (now Mt. Vernon). He was prominent in
    town affairs while in Winthrop. He came to Winthrop from Wrentham before the incorporation of the town. He was a Town Clerk from 1771 to 1778. The Decleration of Independence were spread upon the Town's records 'in his full, round and

    Notes:

    Allen and Maria Hall may have had two other children, Ester, a daughter, who died at the age of one and Abby, a daughter, who died at the age of eleven. (This suggestion comes from the recollection of Ella Hall.)



    Allen Hall removed to Winthrop, ME with his parents sometime before 1771. While there he married Maria Lyons. They removed to East Dixfield Village, Town of Wilton, where he was one of the earliest settlers in that area. He built a log cabin
    on a hill overlooking the center of the village. The census of 1790 lists Josiah and sons Nathan and Allen in Washington Town (now Mt. Vernon). The 1810 census has Allen in Wilton. He and his wife are buried in the East Dixfield Cemetary.



    The following is as it was told by Ella Hall who, at the time, was widow of Albion, son of Anson and grandson of Allen Hall. Its authenticity is subject to considerable doubt:



    Allen Hall, who was born at Walpole, MA, was one of the first settlers of Winthrop, ME. He was a Saxon by birth. His wife, Maria Lyons, whom he married in April 1780 was born in Massachusetts and had moved to Readfield, ME before they were
    married. Allen Hall was a Baptist Preacher. He went to war for one year during the Revolution. He was taken prisoner and lay a prisoner in Quebec Prison for six months until peace was declared. While he was a prisoner his captors told him
    that if he would swim the Shatigee River they would give him quarter. When he got across the reiver they helped him out of the water, gave him som brandy, and took him prisoner again.



    One reason for doubting the above legend is that Allen Hall was born in 1767 and consequently was only fifteen years old when the war ended in 1782.



    Ella Hall says that Allen Hall moved to Wilton before his son William was born.

    Allen married Maria Lyons in 1788. Maria was born in Mar 1769 in Winthrop Or Readfield, ME; died on 29 Aug 1856 in East Dixfield, ME. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
