Rosa was the daughter of Harriet "Hattie" Johnston and George William Hall Jr. She was the oldest of four children. Rosa married Kenneth Arthur Hutchins on October 27, 1931.

She and Ken opened their home to over fifty foster children during their lives. They successfully adopted three of those children; Harold, Mary Ann, and Kathleen Marie.

One of the farm houses they owned caught fire and the barn with the horses also. Kathy was about seven years old at the time and she still remembers the awful noises of that night.

Rosa would can the vegetables from the garden Ken planted and store them in the root cellar along with the carrots and potatoes.

AUGUSTA - Arthur L. Hall, 74, of Gray Birch Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at his home following a long illness.

He was born in Blue Hill on May 24, 1935, a son of the late Dana and Estelle (Curtis) Hall.

Arthur graduated with the class of 1953 from Gardiner Area High School, going into the armed forces shortly afterwards. He spent 12 years in the Air Force and the Army, serving during both the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Mr. Hall was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Hope Hall; and a brother, Robert Hall.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Reba (Emery) Hall, of Augusta; three sons, Dr. Kevin Hall and his wife, Mary, of West Milford, N.J., E. Denis Lovely and his wife, Janet, of Calais, and William Lovely and his wife, Anette, of Gardiner; two daughters, Vonnie J. Coron of Winthrop and V. At his request, there will be no public visiting hours or funeral service. Burial will be held at Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, at a later date.
