    Warren Delano II, grandfather of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, was born in the part of New Bedford which is now the Town of Fairhaven, MA.

    He was a prominent China Trader during the 1830s and returned to Fairhaven with a substantial fortune.

    In 1850, he created Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven. Besides keeping the family homestead in Fairhaven as a summer residence, he also built a home called Algonac near Newburgh, NY. He is buried in the Delano Family Tomb.

    Sara Ann Delano was the wife of James Roosevelt and the mother of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She was born and raised in the town of Newburgh, NY. Her family was very wealthy and she traveled often to China and surrounding countries as a child. She was a firm believer of a regimented lifestyle, and carried through the finances and actions of her very large estate in Hyde Park after her husband's death.

    She played a big part in FDR's campaigns and entertaining many of his prominent guest at her home in Hyde Park NY. She was supporting her son's career and presidency even standing in for the first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, several times at public occasions. She died 230 days after hers son's re electing to Presidency. In commemoration of her life, she was honored with the Sara Delano Roosevelt Park in New York City's Lower East Side, which was dedicated during her lifetime, in 1934.
