    Robert Anthony Eden, 1st Earl of Avon was born on 12 June 1897. He was the son of Sir William Eden, 5th/7th Bt. and Sybil Frances Grey.

    He married, firstly, Beatrice Helen Beckett, daughter of Sir William Gervase Beckett, 1st Bt. and Hon. Mabel Theresa Duncombe, on 5 November 1923. He and Beatrice Helen Beckett were divorced in 1950.

    He married, secondly, Anne Clarissa Spencer-Churchill, daughter of Major John Strange Spencer-Churchill and Lady Gwendoline Theresa Mary Bertie, on 14 August 1952.

    He died on 14 January 1977 at age 79.

    Robert Anthony Eden, 1st Earl of Avon usually went by his middle name of Anthony. He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.). He was Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1934. He was Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1954. He held the office of Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury between 7 April 1955 and 9 January 1957. He was created 1st Earl of Avon [U.K.] on 12 July 1961. He was created 1st Viscount Eden, of Royal Leamington Spa, co. Warwick [U.K.] on 12 July 1961.
