    Obituary:
    Hollis R. Hall, 77

OLD ORCHARD BEACH -- Hollis Richards Hall 'Max,' 77, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, after a two year fight with pancreatic cancer.

Hollis was born on Feb. 14, 1933, in Keene, N.H., to Max and Chessie Hall. Hollis attended school in Marlborough, N.H., and graduated in Keene, N.H. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion.

He married Pauline Loretta Gaudreau and they had four children.

Hollis worked most of his life at Sanel Auto Parts in Plymouth, N.H., and Steego and then Napa Auto Parts in Biddeford. He had fond memories being part of his life long friends Harry Hannaford and Eddie Doggett's racing teams in the 1960s. Harry recently thanked Max for helping him become The Milk Bowl Winner 1962 and 1964 and The Thunder Road Champion 1964-1965 Champion at the Berry Vermont Race Way.

He enjoyed part time employment when he retired at Hertz Rent a Car in Portland, where he made many strong friendships.

Hollis or 'Max' as he liked to be called was an amazingly talented man, an undiscovered mechanical genius. He was passionate about wood working especially picture frames, which he sold for many years. He could fix anything with his positive 'can do' attitude. He was a great story and joke teller. He taught many the fine art and strategies of Cribbage. Hollis was also a musical savant; he played hundreds of songs on his keyboard even though he never learned to read musical notes.

Hollis relived his love of motorcycle riding at the age of 68 when he purchased his 2001 Triumph Bonneville. He rode 'Fergie' year round until just eight weeks prior to his death putting over 90,000 miles on her. He always made his weekly Saturday visit to his extended family and strong friendships at Street Cycles in Falmouth.

Hollis is survived by his beloved wife, Pauline (Gaudreau) Hall; sons, Edward and wife Dawn of Naples, Fla., Benjamin and wife Alicia of Biddeford, Randall and wife Darlene of Lyman, daughter, Holly (Hall) Dell'Aquila and husband Mike of Cape Elizabeth; sister, Jane Gifford of Penacook, N.H.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Jessica and Cassaundra Dell'Aquila, Jay and Joshua Smith, Sara and Ashley Hall, Joey Hall, Sabryna, Lauren and Hunter Hall. 'The best Grampy ever.' He was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Curtis of New London, N.H.; and parents, Max and Chessie Hall.

He leaves our world a better place and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace 'Max.'

A very special thanks to Dr. Mathew Duggan and Ms. Julie at the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, and the entire loving staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

A celebration of life will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. at Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco, on Nov. 13, 2010.
