Portland Mayor, Businessman.

Arriving in Portland, Oregon in 1851, and became an influential merchant in the development of the community.

Active in politics, he became Mayor of Portland in 1854.

In 1859 he formed Ladd and Tilton Bank with a partner, providing working capital to the growing businesses of Oregon.

Four years after his death, William Ladd's grave was robbed of the body with the intention of ransom. Reburial included filling the grave with cement to prevent further disturbance.
