GOODBODY, THOMAS L. JR. November 19, 1933 to January 2, 2012 Lt. Colonel (USAF-Retired)

Thomas L. Goodbody, Jr., died Monday, January 2, 2012, at the age of 78. He was born in San Diego, California, to Thomas L. Goodbody, Sr. and Dorothy Hall Goodbody.

He was a graduate of San Diego High School and quite possibly the proudest graduate ever of San Diego State University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, was president of Blue Key, vice president of Associated Students and president of Associated Men Students. He was named in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. He served 24 years in the Air Force and worked for 16 years as the Director of Procurement and Contracting in the Department of Information Technology for the Commonwealth of Virginia. His last boss, Chuck Livingston, was quoted as saying, "He was a pain in the ass."

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Smith Goodbody, who is no doubt bound for sainthood. He is also survived by his five fabulous children, Lynn Goodbody Davidson (Chuck), Bonnie Goodbody Kettlewell (Mark), Thomas L. Goodbody, III (Sondra), Elizabeth M. Goodbody, and Dee L. Goodbody (his favorite and obviously the writer of this obituary). He is also survived by five beloved grandchildren, Kyle T. Jones, Courtney Jones Payne, Taylor G. Goodbody, Katie Jacks, and Ella D. Goodbody, and two great-grandchildren, Chloe Christian and Channing Hope Payne.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Drive, Richmond, on Friday, January 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice. Go Aztecs!

GOODBODY, THOMAS L III Thomas "Tommy" L. Goodbody, III, 52, died February 1, 2012.

He is enjoying a beer and a ballgame with his best friend and father, Thomas L. Goodbody, Jr., who died January 2, 2012, and he has, undoubtedly, found Jerry Garcia and is jamming with him.

He was the widower of Julie Boyle Goodbody and is survived by his "Victory Lady," his wife, the amazing Sondra Golden, and his beautiful daughter, Katie Jacks, to whom he was "Homer Simpson." He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth Goodbody, his sisters, Lynn Davidson (Chuck), Bonnie Kettlewell (Mark), Beth Goodbody and Dee Goodbody (his favorite, who has decided that is how she'll be known in every obit she writes), as well as his nephew, Kyle Jones, and his nieces, Courtney Payne, Taylor Goodbody, Ella Goodbody and Jadyn VanMeter and two great nieces.

Tommy lived a wild and wonderful life. He was a free spirit with an unequaled sense of humor, a heart of gold and a great love for his family. He was a cat lover, a sports fan (especially of the Chargers and the Padres), a Dead Head, an avid motorcyclist and a talented musician and songwriter of should've-been-hits such as "The Pee Pee Dance." His last years were marked by uncommon strength and grace. A celebration of his well-lived life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. What a long, strange trip it's been.
