After his military he received a BS Degree from Johnson Sate College and Masters from Union College and Michigan State College.

He taught for three years at Ben-Hi, then nine years at Arlington High School and later at Mt. Anthony Union High School for 27 years. Prior to his retirement in 1992 he was the department head at Mt. Anthony for his last 12 years there

He was also a Red Cross swimming instructor and was very active in community activities

His enjoyed bird hunting; fly fishing and gardening.

Survived by his wife; a son and his wife; a daughter and her husband; 2 granddaughters; two half brothers.

Predeceased by his daughter Jill Coley in 1987, brother Charles and sister Margaret.
