      12. BENJAMIN ISHAM (John, John), born in Edgartown, Mass. about 1723; died in Ellington, Conn. Apr. 21, 1797, aged 74 years; married Elizabeth ____, who died in Ellington about 1760; married second Hannah _____, born ____, died in Ellington Apr. 26, 1827.

Benjamin Isham was a farmer all his life. He bough seventy-three acres of land of Elisha Loomis, and sixteen acres more of Daniel Loomis. Apr. 29, 1748 (Windsor Deeds, Col. VIII, p. 32). According to present boundaries this land would be in that part of Ellington just north of Rockville. The east shore of the pond is in Tolland. He sold these two parcels of land to Medinah Fitch Apr. 7, 1750, for £300, and thereby appears to have lost money, but we do not know all the circumstances (Windsor Deeds, Vol. IX, p. 24).

Other Windsor deeds show purchases of land in 1761 and 1763. Joseph Blunt of Windsor (Tolland) conveyed to Benjamin Isham for £20 the north side and east end of Lot 108 in Ellington Parish, bounded by land of Jeremiah Diggens, eleven and one half acres. Feb. 25, 1763. Besides this he also owned the whole of Lot 109, a total of thirty-one and one-half acres. These lots were near those of his father and brother John.

Benjamin Isham was made freeman Sept. 12, 1786, at the time Ellington became a town.

By will dated Dec. 24, 1792, Benjamin Isham of Ellington made bequests to wife Hannah; to three sons, James, Asher and Lemuel £20 each; to daughters Elizabeth and Mary £8 each; to son Obadiah the remainder of the estate. Obadiah to be the sole executor. Inventory of estate taken May 25, 1797, shows a total of £745, 14s, 11d (East Windsor Probate Records, Vol. II, p. 108).
