      Here lies the Body of John Hamlin, Esq., eldest son of Giles Hamlin, Esq., of Middletown, -- A faithful Man & feared God above many. 36 years successfully, He was an assistant of this Colony, & in that 7 in Diverse other important Public Trusts he served his Generation with great Integrity, not seeking his own but the wealth of his people, and having done good in Israel, finished his course & kept the faith, he fell asleep Jan'y 2d, 1732-3 in the 75 year of his Age.

      He was the son of Giles & Hester (Crowe) Hamlin.
      He married first Mary(Collins)Hamlin Jan 1684; second, Sarah Bull, 2 Jan 1723. Sarah was the widow of Major Jonathan Bull of Hartford.
