      William was the 2nd oldest son of Sir Harry Oakes & Eunice (MacIntyre) Oakes five children. His siblings were Nancy, Sidney, Shirley Lewis & Harry Phillip Oakes.

      The 27 year old William P. Oakes died as a result of coronary thrombosis complicated by a liver ailment. He lived in Nassau, The Bahamas, with his wife Eunice (Bailey) Oakes. He was visiting New York City on business and staying at the Westbury Hotel before falling ill and being taken to the Bronx Nursing Home. He died shortly after his arrival.

      William was the Director of the Katmative Tin Mines in Rhodesia and also had interests in several oil drilling companies.
