      SIR SYDNEY OAKES, 39-year-old businessman, has died in hospital at Nassau, in the Bahamas, after a car crash.

      He was the elser son of Sir Harry Oakes, Canadian-born baronet and goldmining millionaire, whose murder in 1943 is one of the century's greatest unsolved crimes.

      Sir Sydney's car left the road yesterday and hit a lamp standard and crshed down and trapped him.

      He was twice married. By his first wife he leaves a son, Christopher, 17, who inherits the title, and two daughters, Felicity, 14, and Virginia, 13, both of whom are in England.

      He and his second wife, Lady Nancy Oakes, have a son, Pitt, five.
